Scanuppia - Malga Palazzo

I discovered this hill on climbbybike.com. Gains more vertical distance in a shorter period of time than any other hill on the planet (unless there's another hill no one knows about), except for very short hills like Fargo St. Even Fargo is only marginally steeper for the first .1 miles. There are probably sections in the Scanuppia that are steeper and longer than Fargo, including a claimed section of 45%! In any case, his hill hits averages 23% for the first 2 miles! Not even the last 1.5 miles of Lincoln Gap comes close to that, and hills like Mount Tom, Bolton Notch, and Kingsley Hill Road look easy in comparison.

There are some indications that this hill is no longer open to the public, which may make my dream of taking my new bike up there more difficult. The only hill that intimidates me more than this one is Mauna Kea, due mostly to its altitude. I think the Scanuppia would be possible with the appropriate gearing (and by appropriate gearing, I'm talking about something like a cross bike with SRAM XX 39-26 in the front and 11-36 in the back). Mauna Kea, on the other hand, might just be out of my reach.
